A Lady in the Streets Can’t Be a Freak in the Sheets?

 

Recently, for the sake of conversation, I’ve been asking for people to explain to me what makes Kim Kardashian a woman of loose morals. For every point they raise, I provide a counter argument and when they are unable to go any further someone slips in the “God said so” line! It’s utterly frustrating; nobody wants to present logical facts to back their stance – but what can we do? It’s the society we live in.

So really what makes one a woman of “less virtue”? I’ve been told it isn’t whether she’s a perpetual gossip, or a pathological liar or that she’s greedy and extremely malicious. It is not about the fact that she’s a perpetual debtor… It is simply about how many people she has or has not had sex with.

I find this point of view really hilarious but I heard something more interesting than funny while I was on this topic. Some guy said that there are certain sexual styles and positions he would engage in with only a certain type of woman.

Of course this piqued my curiosity.. “Ehn? Explain further please”. He proceeded to say that he wanted to have sex in certain ways with certain types of women before he gets married because he wouldn’t want to be “doing bad bad tingz with the wife I marry”. This kind of “interesting” logic always gets me because I like to understand how they are unfurled. So I asked again “Ehn? So some sexual styles are good and some are bad?” He tried to explain that he just believed some girls were adventurous and more experienced and they weren’t the type of girls one married. I needed more clarification. “What positions are good girl positions and what ones are for Bad Girl-trained-On-The-Sidewalk?”

When I shared this with my friends, we laughed and someone said “So how does this not add up to the “virgin bride” theory?” -the one that says that as a girl, you should wait until within the confines of marriage to “Do and Undo” with your husband. If the husband already believes that any evidence that you’re forming “contortionist” in bed is evidence that you’ve been a “bad bad gurl”

Anyway, what do you guys think about this? Do you agree that certain sexual styles are for certain types of women? Do you think married couples should not be adventurous with their sex lives? What would you define as a bad/good girl sexual style/position?

Supple, Luscious & Bold! Makeup Artist Editi Udofot of Edee Beau shares 4 Ways to Reinvent the Red Lip

A few days ago a couple of friends and I decided to go shopping.  Realizing I hadn’t rocked the red lip in a while I decided to get some MAC ‘Rubywoo’ lipstick. I got to the store and the lipstick was sold out!

Apparently every Shade, Ifeoma and Halima now rocks the crimson pout leaving me without one of my own. I mean I couldn’t even get the ‘normal’ version at the convenience store close to my house. Red lips are every where!  

From the blogs to ladies on the streets of Lagos almost every lipstick wearing female had the same bland version of red lip on. Has the red lip lost its ‘IT’ factor?

For the answer I decided to get some professional advice from beauty specialist, Editi Udofot. Editi is the owner of the make up store Edee Beau in London with star studded clientele  like Omotola Jalade- Ekeinde, Funke ‘Jenifa’ Akindele, ToolzO, Eku Edewor, Yvonne Okoro among others.

Editi shares 4 ways that the red lip could be re-invented giving back its ‘oomph’

The basic tools you would be needing to pull these looks together are: - MAC Lipstick in ‘Rubywoo’ - Ply Tissue - MAC lip pencil in ‘Currant’ - Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm - Urban Decay Stardust Lip gloss in ‘Andromeda’ - MAC Lip Liner in ‘Cherry’ - Tom Ford lipstick in ‘Cherry Lush’ - MAC studio finish concealer - MAC lipstick in ‘Russian red’ - MAC lipstick in ‘Lady Bug’ - Carmex Lip balm

The Basics

Skin Care:  Every good make-up artist understands the importance of prepping the skin properly to help conceal imperfections and ensure your makeup lasts throughout the day. Using Clinique’s 3- step skin care products, start by cleansing the face using circular movements with the Liquid Facial Soap. Then using a flat cotton wool, apply the Clarifying lotion that suits your skin needs to tone the skin and finally massage in the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion perfect for all skin types.

Preparation: Making sure your fingers are clean, use the tips to apply a dime-size amount of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and let it set for 15 seconds. Now your face and eyes should be prepped and primped ready for makeup.

a) Face: You could use a Bobbi Brown foundation stick buffed into the skin followed by MAC Studio Finish Concealer to cover any imperfections and blended perfectly. Ben Nye Banana Powder (my secret weapon) was used under the eye to achieve that velvety flawless highlight. MAC Translucent Powder was then used all over the face to set the foundation.

Finally a MAC Blusher in ‘Breezy’ was then applied to the cheeks and for that extra dimension and structure to the face, Sleek Contour Palette in Dark was used around the perimeters of the face, the hollows of the cheeks and the corners of the nose.

b) Eyes: As the main focus of this makeup is on the lips, it was decided to go for a subtle contoured eye look. Prime using Urban Decay Eye shadow Primer all over the entire lid and blend properly.

- Blend a flesh-toned eye shadow on the lid and up to the crease of the eye with a browner shadow blended in the crease itself to create that contoured effect. - Line around the lash and waterline with MAC Fluidline in ‘Blacktrack’, coat lashes with Diorshow Extase mascara and for that extra oomph, apply some false Edee Beau lashes. - Sculpt the brows with MAC Eyebrow Pencil in ‘Spiked’, set with MAC Eye shadow in ‘Embark’ and highlight with a MAC studio Finish Concealer.

Now that your face has been prepared, it’s time for the lipstick. The red lip has different ways of being applied but these are the ways that I love and are the most popular.

1. Two-toned lips: a two-toned lip might seem a bit ‘theatrical’ but it takes the art of lipstick wearing to a whole new level. It is basically applying two close colors of lipstick  to give the lip two varied shades.

Get the Look: a) First we applied the MAC Lipstick in ‘Rubywoo’ all over the lips *Edee’s Tip: Blot lips with 1 ply tissue and re-fill or re apply to the lips. This converts the lipstick into a stain ensuring the color lasts all day. b) Next we lined the lip with a darker color MAC lip pencil in ‘Currant’ and mixed the lips together to blend. The more you blend, the deeper the gradient goes. c) Finally we applied Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm over the lips for a moist supple look.

2. Glittery Red Lip: Some things just look better with glitter.

Get The Look: a) For this hot glittery lip we first applied the MAC Lipstick in ‘Rubywoo’ all over the lips 

*Edee’s tip: Blot lips with 1 ply tissue and re-fill or re apply to the lips. This converts the lipstick into a stain ensuring the color lasts all day. b) Secondly we lined the lip with a darker color of MAC lip pencil in ‘Currant’ and mixed the lips together to blend it in. c) Finally we applied a generous amount of Urban Decay Stardust Lip gloss in ‘Andromeda’ in the center of the lips.

3. Pale Red Lips: This is also called the “Kissed off” lip in some circles. For this look, it was important we lined the lips with a similar lipstick color.

Get the Look: a) For this look a MAC Lip Liner in ‘Cherry’ was first used to line and fill the lips. *Edee’s Tip: After using the liner, blot lips with 1 ply tissue and re-fill or re apply to the lips. This converts the liner into a stain ensuring the color lasts all day. b) Finally apply Tom Ford lipstick in ‘Cherry Lush’ with Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm over the lips for a moisturized supple look.

4. Ombre Red Lip: I have to say this is a personal favorite and can also be referred to as a two toned lip.

Get the Look: a) To achieve this look we applied MAC studio finish concealer on the bottom lip and used a darker lip liner. We used a MAC lip pencil in ‘Currant’ to outline the outside of the top lip and slightly brought the color down. b) Using a lighter shade of lipstick MAC lipstick in ‘Russian red’, we applied it in the middle of the top lip only. c) Finally we applied a lighter shade of lipstick of MAC lipstick in ‘Lady Bug’ at the middle of the bottom lip and applied Carmex Lip balm all over the lips for a moisturized and supple finish.

There you go, four ways you can let go of the usual red lip and go for something much fresher. Enjoy!

Hair, Skin & Nails! 12 Beauty Tips You ladies Should Know

 

There are so many tips and tricks when it comes to beauty that make the routine a lot easier. From getting a smoother face to reviving old nail polishes, these tips make ‘beauty chores’ that normally would take an hour or more take only a few minutes. Want the scoop on how you could get your beauty routine done faster? Here are a few tips to help you out.

Tip 1: Getting rid of shaving redness or irritation

Shaving sometimes comes with bumps or redness which could lead to a lot of discomfort. To prevent your skin from suffering post-shave irritation, before shaving stand under running warm water in the shower for a few minutes. This process helps open up the skin’s pores making hair follicles come out easier.

Tip 2: Picking the right foundation or concealer for your skin tone

When testing for foundation or concealer colors we sometimes need to wipe it on our skin to know if it’s a match. We don’t always get it right. A quick way to nailing it is to swipe a sample of the product on the skin close to the jawline or specifically on the chin. This allows a close up comparison between the shade you’re testing out and the color of the skin on your neck so you can have a more blended look when you make up.

Tip 3: Getting fuller/bigger looking lips

Use a neutral toned lip liner to line your lip higher than your natural lip line and apply lipstick using the drawn lip line as a guide. This gives the illusion of a bigger lip therefore making it look fuller. However be careful not to make the line too far back so your face doesn’t have a disproportionate look.

Tip 4: Skipping pedicures

Not everyone likes getting pedicures done. To skip a few sessions use a pumice stone to scrub your feet. The grain of the stone takes off old and dead skin leaving the feet  looking clean and refreshed. After this, dry off the feet and moisturize to give them a natural supple look.

Tip 5: Getting softer skin

To maintain the moisturized look and feel of your skin apply a skin moisturizer immediately you step out of the shower or pool. Showering usually washes away the natural oils of the skin leaving the skin looking dry and dehydrated; the moisturizer replaces them giving it back its vibrant glow.

Tip 6: Drying out pimples

I know this might sound crazy but it works. To dry out pimples apply a small amount of toothpaste to the affected area and leave in for about 15 mins, wash off and towel dry.

Tip 7: Reducing grease on your scalp

If you have a very greasy scalp avoid applying hair lotions to the full length of your hair or on the scalp directly. Instead of this apply it to the tips of the hair strands.

Tip 8: Painting neat nails

It took a while for me to understand the art of painting my nails without smudging the corners but I finally got the hang of it. To get smudge-free nails is pretty simple: paint your nails as you normally would and apply a top coat or nail hardener to the part you intentionally painted and smudged mistakenly. When you’re done immediately clean off the smudge leaving only the nail panel painted.

Tip 9: Buying beauty products

When buying beauty products be sure you are aware of the types of chemicals used in making them. Conduct a proper research of its contents before using and stick to one or two products as opposed to changing them constantly.

Tip 10: Changing your beauty routine

Using the same type of lotion or make up for different weather conditions is bad for the skin. With weather change the beauty products should change as well. In the harmattan season, you should use more products that give moisture while in the summer apply lotions with high SPF to keep your skin healthy all year long.

NOTE: Lotions that have SPF15 are generally for light or normal weather. For more harsh weather try a SPF 20 or SPF 50.

Tip 11: Refreshing beauty products

Try to change your beauty products regularly. Old products like mascaras and lip glosses outlive their validity without you knowing and could start to affect your skin. Changing your products prevents your skin from breaking out and possibly having other irritations.

Tip 12: Reviving old nail polish

Are you stuck with old polish? Instead of throwing it away and getting a new one, just put it in the fridge. The cold from the fridge breaks any molding the polish may have from being stale and a few hours in the fridge keeps the polish smooth and gives you an easy finish. Just make sure kids don’t think it’s a lolly.

African American who invented the water gun worth $200m

It may surprise you to know that the creator of one of children’s favourite toys, super soaker water gun is an African American, and he is now $200 million rich off his invention.

Scientist and Engineer, Lonnie George Johnson who was on CNBC’s Business Nation’s segment titled, ‘How I Made My Millions’ told the story of how the water gun made him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.

‘At a point, I thought, why don’t I take time off the high-tech science stuff on hold for a while and see if I can develop a toy that something that anybody can appreciate. It was actually about a year later that I had my first working gun’ Johnson explained

With little or no advertising, the gun was put in stores and the manufacturers couldn’t believe the demand.

‘The demand was so much that the production company couldn’t keep up’ Johnson said.

‘Of course I was going to create a business around it. I was going to manufacture it and sell it and make some money. When I received my first royalty cheque, I knew I wasn’t prepared for it.’  

The Super soaker gun till date generates millions of dollars in annual sales.

It turned out to be the top selling toy in the United States in 1991 and 1992 and has held its ranking among the world’s top 20 best-selling toys every year since its creation.

A former employee of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), 64-years old Johnson has since used part of his wealth to build himself a high-tech laboratory and is now actively involved in serious scientific research.
